Boney Mountain (slide 37)

This mountain, viewed from the ridge defining the north edge of Nicholas Flats, is the highest in the Santa Monicas. It reaches 3000 feet at Sandstone Peak. Also part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, it grows lovely flowers and harbors peace within its craggy valleys.

Boney is on the skyline in this shot, with Triunfo Pass out of the image to the right. The face you see here burned in 1994 and was complete devastation when I rode by a couple of months later. By April of 1995 the chaparral was showing its vigor in a profusion of flowers and plants returning from their protected roots.
