Widening World (slide 26)

Deer Creek Road is a narrow winding paved track. The go-fast riders stay off of it, as does anyone with sense. I like it, one reason being its lack of traffic. The main reason is views like this.

On the skyline are the coast ranges leading to Santa Barbara, roughly 60 miles away. You can see Pacific blue below the mountains. Inland from that is Oxnard Plain, flat rich farmland formed by the Santa Clara River. It's the home of the strawberry. Serrano Valley is the open area below, leading to Big Sycamore Canyon. Both canyons are in Point Mugu State Park, and make for delightful hiking, birdwatching and spring flower photography.
