Old Filter

after four years and about120 sculptures

oldfilt.jpg

Some details to note: The uprights are pine molding, with the screen material glued on with hot glue. Because hot glue doesn't stick well, I also screwed strips of Masonite over it while it was liquid. The handle was an afterthought, put in after I realized I might want to carry the filter.

Hidden details include longer screws than I normally use. Whenever there was doubt I overbuilt, and this served me well.

New Filter

after one sculpture

Some details to note here: The uprights are oak, cut one inch wide to match the aluminum strips I had in the garage. The screen material is still attached with hot glue, but this time I smoothed it with a tool, let it harden, and then screwed strips of aluminum over the glue for reinforcement. Aluminum won't abrade and break up as the Masonite did.
