Able-bodied helper Russ Madsen, who knows good sand when he feels it. If you ever have to work with sand, hire a rockhound. |
This pull was made more difficult by the beach's steep slope. Here, Russ has passed the cusp and has a nice easy pull on the flat, the rest of the way to our work site. Having been a helper in the old days Russ really appreciates the cart, and I appreciate his help. Even with the cart, having help is a big benefit; all the energy saved goes into design. |
Technical Note:I finally figured out why images captured from video had odd proportions. When I captured images of the sand cart for Larry Dudock I noticed the wheels were oblate. Turns out the video image on the tape is 640X480, but the software captures at 720X480. For these images I've corrected the distortion by resampling to 640 pixels wide. There's always something to fix. I also let Photoshop rebalance color and contrast automatically. Quick, and does a pretty good job. As with most automatic adjustments it tends to make the images too "hard" so I reduce the contrast afterward to suit the capabilities of most displays. I want details in the shadow areas to be visible. |
