| Again the issue was in doubt. Another storm was making up off to the northwest, but California weather is just capricious enough that I usually think I can make it. |

I'd walked the beach the evening before to get some idea of how the sand was; then it had been great. One high tide later the fine sand was gone, replaced by mediocre. It was good enough and I filled the form nearly to the top.
Rich brought his son Eric, in town on leave from the Air Force, to the beach. Both of them did process photography as I worked and the clouds built. My idea was derived from earlier works. I wanted to make a sort of "sculpture atop a sculpture," but that idea ran into several others and no clear victor emerged from the chaos. The result was heavy, but parts had good movement. In particular, I liked the strong interlocking curves on the south side. They were more than that, fitting with other parts of the sculpture and flowing around it. There weren't very many holes through this one, but there are other ways to make a sculpture interesting. The pre-storm light was perfect for photography. When that was finished, I didn't feel like tempting fate any farther so we left before sunset. The rain arrived an hour later, running through the night. | ||||||||||
