The Back-saver Sand Cart

Sand Cart image

On Venice Beach the sand is finer down around the low-tide line. Because a sculpture takes all day I have to build out of reach of the day's high tide. This means roughly half a ton of sand has to be moved through about five vertical feet over a horizontal distance of up to 200 feet. This gets old with buckets in hand, and one day my back announced it had had enough.

A search on the Internet for appropriate wheels found these big orange plastic wonders. Load the cart with over 200 pounds of wet sand and it rolls right over dry sand or wet sand. It works so well that my back became weak. Now I carry water by hand, but use the cart for sand.
