Alan Matsumoto

"Arms Wrestling"

Early stages of Alan Matsumoto's piece. Note the handy way he keeps the carving tools in reach -- tucked in his bandanna.

Another view of Alan's piece, early stages.

Alan Matsumoto's piece, completed. Note that this is King Neptune's second head; the first had a plastic bag inside and developed cracks. Alan chopped it off and started over.

Chuck Feld

"Galaxy Chess"

This shows the completed piece, which took second place. I really liked the idea and execution of this piece. The stars on the chessboard, and the choice to use Star Wars and sea creatures as chess pieces, were great touches
